St. Peters is the patron saint of GateKeepers

I dreamt that I met St. Peters @ the pearly gates.

He opened the gates, saluted and shouted 'Shallaam Shaab' with a clicking of the heels.

WTF? I said when did you turn racist? Why are you racial profiling me?

He shot back - "You idiot - I've been nominated 'patron saint' of the 'GateKeeping' security establishment."

A sigh of relief - Phew! - For a moment I thot he was racist.

North Korea - Nuclear Tests and Beyond... what it means to the world...

People aren't stupid they understand what blasting plutonium measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale means... everyone know what launching 2 missiles immediately the next day means...

There is a view the so called "EXPERTS" espouse - suggesting NK is just a spoilt brat seeking attention... and their advice is to turn a blind eye. This might be in line with the current US administration's foreign policy but it is a ticking bomb for the whole world.

What perplexes me is how a country considered "AN AXIS OF EVIL" 5 years ago has become an insignificant/harmless real estate not worth bothering about today.

Turning a blind eye so far has driven them to rekindle all their nuclear activities like as if the cooperation with IAEA didn't happen...

It is also the turning a blind eye policy that made NK a pariah in the first place...

The same policy blunder we saw earlier with the Mujaheed/Al-Quaida/Taliban
clique is unfolding before our eyes... Only this time with its a billion times more destructive... We are talking Nuclear.

What about those promises of engaging with the world...

If NK is not dealt with properly this time it could very well lead to a whole host of very undesirable problems globally. And it would not be treatable easily...

India the home of Millionaire Slumdog

All the hype and hoopla surrounding the awards and nominations for Slumdog Millionaire one can't help but wonder how Danny BOYle did it...

Its got the same masala and gimmickry that Hindi movies have had for ages.
How a child who grew up in the slums of Mumbai goes to win 2 Crores in his adolescence.
A typical fairly tale. A story of hope, aspiration and fortune.

An underlying message of positivity at a time when Mumbai has just been violated and maimed by the KASAB clique.

Slumdog Millionaire provide us an aspiration and show us a path for the world pursuits.
Qualities that are aspirational in this material world we live in.

In the past this country has been inspired and lead by people who have given up all material pursuits - Buddha/Mahatma Gandhi BTW both were NRI.

People who have given up their millions and inheritance and all worldly pursuits to lead a life of an ascetic.

Living for a bigger purpose a purpose larger than self /self indulgence and loathe.

They were the Millionaire Slumdogs - people who had their millions and yet left for greater pursuits than their own selves.

Buddha was a Prince and heir to a huge empire.
Mahatma Gandhi was a successful Barrister educated in London and South Africa @ a time where common people would never even travel beyond the vicinity of their villages.

Yet they chose the lives of simplicity and renunciation and changed the world with their ideas.
They are the originals. They are the true Millionaire Slumdogs.

Oscar academy restores Satyajit Ray's banned film - SIKKIM

This is one of the biggest news to come out on Sikkim.

http://in.reuters.com/article/topNews/idINIndia-36383520081107

God bless the guys at the Academy.

Question: Why is it always that someone else from distant lands take up interest in preserving our heritage...

Why do we Indian's collectively fail in this department.

Thanks Arindam for the link.

"Audiences in India can watch "Sikkim" for the first time at the 14th Kolkata Film Festival beginning next week. India lifted the ban about four years ago, Sikkim's art and culture trust said." The week from the 10th Nov 2008 to the 17th Nov 2008.

Sikkim (1971) - Satyajit Ray

Sikkim is a documentary by the Oscar winning directory Satyajit Ray that was produced and commissioned by the Chogyal of Sikkim.

Sikkim is a documentary about the nation of Sikkim, made by Satyajit Ray in 1971. The documentary was commissioned by the Chogyal (King) of Sikkim at a time when he felt the sovereignty of Sikkim was under threat from both China and India. Ray's documentary is about the sovereignty of Sikkim.

The film had to undergo double censorship from both the film's commissioners and the Indian government, when Sikkim became a state of India in 1975. The documentary was banned by the Indian government, and all known copies of the documentary destroyed.

For many years, it was thought that the only surviving record of the film is a scene-by-scene written reconstruction of the film by the remaining film team members. However, in January 2003 it was reported that a good quality print has been kept by the British Film Institute.

According to the BFI - the print is in need for immediate restoration. But Sikkim is yet to be restored. According to AMPASA sources, the results of the photo-chemical tests run on the film were most discouraging, and digital tests did not yield enough color to work on either. The only solution lies in a shot by shot digital restoration by a digital artist. However, the costs are prohibitive --- about $250,000 for a 52-minute documentary. The good news, on the other hand, is that the digital costs are coming down rapidly. In a couple of years, it is expected to be down to $100,000. So, right now the plan is to wait.

However, according to the AMPASA director Mike Pogorzelski, the Heffenrefer print, although almost without colour, is better than the other two. If and when Sikkim is digitally restored, it is the one that will be used.

The fate of Sikkim, therefore, is still hanging in the balance.

GUYS! IF YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING FOR SIKKIM. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE!!
